Team Principal Wolff has led the Mercedes team to historic success in F1

Toto Wolff is engaged in final negotiations to offload part of his shareholding in the Mercedes Formula 1 team.

The deal values the Mercedes team at £4.6 billion – a record for an F1 team – after McLaren were valued at £3.5 billion in a change of ownership structure in September.

Wolff, who owns a 33% stake of Mercedes F1, plans to divest a shareholding approximately 5%.

The 53-year-old would stay on as team boss and CEO should the deal proceed.

Ownership Breakdown

Remaining partners in Mercedes F1 are Mercedes and industrial group Ineos Group, who each also own a third of the enterprise.

A Mercedes spokesperson stated: "We are providing no official statement on the matter. The governance of Mercedes F1 will remain unaltered, and all three partners are dedicated to the ongoing success of the brand in F1."

Financial Growth

This arrangement signifies a substantial rise in value of the Mercedes team after Ineos bought its share for £208m in 2022.

This surge demonstrates the growth in market values of Formula 1 outfits in the past few years due to the growing popularity of Formula 1 globally.

This was also seen in the box-office performance of the F1 movie featuring Brad Pitt, which debuted last summer and earned more than $630m (£458m) at the box office.

The film represents the actor's top-grossing film and the most successful sports film to date.

Present Standings

Mercedes are second in the constructors' championship, behind McLaren Racing, with three races left in the current championship.

Mercedes' primary racer British driver George Russell has secured victory in two of the 21 grands prix so far and is in fourth place in the drivers' championship behind McLaren's Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Red Bull's Max Verstappen.

The team secured a unprecedented eight consecutive team titles and seven driver championships, six won by Lewis Hamilton and one for Nico Rosberg, from 2014 and 2021.
